Monkey Rock Hike in North Lake Tahoe: A Hidden Gem for Adventurers

Monkey Rock Hike in North Lake Tahoe: A Hidden Gem for Adventurers

If you’re visiting North Lake Tahoe and love a hike with a unique twist, Monkey Rock is a must-do! Tucked away near Incline Village, this moderately challenging 2.6-mile out-and-back trail rewards adventurers with stunning views of Lake Tahoe and, of course, the famous Monkey Rock—a rock that resembles a monkey’s face!

The hike has an elevation gain of almost 500 feet, making it a great workout without being too strenuous. The trail begins at the Tunnel Creek Café, a perfect spot to grab a pre-hike snack or iced coffee (I never say no to iced coffee). From there, the path winds through the forest, offering panoramic lake views almost the entire way up.

Kids will love the adventure of finding giant pine cones along the way. When you reach Monkey Rock, it’s a fun photo op and a great spot to take a breather before making your way back down. There is a large paid parking lot at Tunnel Creek Cafe, but it tends to fill up, so get there early!
